Area History and the Bushwhacker Museum:
We are rich in Civil War History with 660 of the 6600 battles fought here in Missouri, mostly along the Missouri/Kansas Border. Nevada was home to the Bushwhackers, the guerilla forces with Southern Sympathies. Many towns in Vernon and surrounding counties were burned to the ground by Federal troops. Locally the Bushwhacker Museum preserves this history along with a great display of pioneer artifacts and early homestead and business displays. www.bushwhacker.org
